Jack,

The lngevity factor is so important. Look at how many flash in the pans there have been. I can think of four of five "next" Pele's who had a dew good years, or not even that. All star games are not always a good indicator, although a look back 40 years at the baseball all star game, makes you go wow. Mays, Clemente, Aaron, Stargell, Brock, McCovey, Marichal, Bench, Jenkins on the NL all in Cooperstown (plus Rose) and Carew, Yaz, F. Robinson, Kaline, Killebrew, B. Robinson, Aparicio, Jackson and Palmer for the AL. Be interesting to look back in 20 to see how this year's lineup fared (of those that bothered to show).

I received a call from WKSU on May 24 regarding this issue. We discussed the impact and options for the Canton and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. News story to be posted shortly.

I think US soccer and their sponsors should be able to pick up the tap from the extra large sum of money they make each year.
Also, the proximity to Manhattan, with its abondance of musiums, should provide a survival opportunity from the many tourists who visit regularly.
Oneonta is so far away, even Baseball is struggling to survive there.

Gus,

Thank you for the reminder about your column. While I, too, believe that Red Bull Arena and Harrison, NJ is an excellent place to site the Museum due to its richness of history, the daunting task is funding. Museums in general just are not money-makers. They need angels committed to their survival through significant monetary donations. Not even the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum breaks even on its business revenue. At the Museum in Oneonta, we were never able to fully fund our activities and never found those committed deep pockets individuals who would make it work financially come hell or high water. That's just a sad but true fact of the Museum world in general - Museums don't survive without angels! So the site is an excellent choice - now to find the deep pockets to make it a reality!
